Black History Month

Black History Month: Tuesday, February 1 – Monday, February 28

USA Truck is proud to celebrate Black History Month. Throughout the month of February, via company-wide emails and our social media accounts, we will feature several of our team members with Black History Month Employee Spotlights and also highlight Black History Facts.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.

Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.

Black History Month is:

  • a time to think and reflect on what it means to be an African American
  • a time to reflect on the activists and organizers of the past who fought for racial equality for everyone
  • a time to not only learn about our Black friends and neighbors, but also to gain a better understanding of the issues that Black Americans faced in the past and continue to face today
  • a celebration of the achievements and accomplishments of Black Americans
  • a reminder that Black history IS American history, Black culture IS American culture, and Black stories ARE essential to the ongoing story of America
  • important because it provides context for how we got to where we are today and a deeper understanding of issues Black Americans still face in this country
