Elmore Earns Grand Champion Title at 2014 USA Truck Technician Championship

Top Three Finishers to Represent Company at State Competition

May 20, 2014 – USA Truck, a leading North American transportation and logistics provider, hosted its fourth annual Technician Championship May 16 at the company’s Van Buren, AR terminal. Jessie Elmore of Van Buren won three of the 10 events and recorded the highest cumulative score on the way to being named Grand Champion.

Elmore was one of 10 technicians in the competition representing USA Truck facilities across the country. Each technician qualified based on a rigorous written exam that tested knowledge of the various systems, components and processes associated with USA Truck’s equipment and maintenance strategy.

The competition consisted of 10 stations, where each technician was required to complete a written and hands-on exam by diagnosing and repairing unknown issues with the equipment on which they were tested.

Elmore notched the top scores in Wheel End Inspection, DOT Inspection and Trailer Preventive Maintenance. Daniel Cupp, also of Van Buren, finished second overall, earning top honors in Transmission, Tires and Cummins Engine Diagnostics. Cupp was also recognized for recording the highest written exam score on the championship qualifying test (which did not weigh in the overall finish). Henry Ipema of Chicago (3rd place) won the HVAC and Steering & Suspension categories.

Elmore, Cupp and Ipema will represent USA Truck at the Arkansas Technician Championship July 11 in Rogers, AR.

Also competing in the company event were: Victor Patino (Dallas), Duane Price (Vandalia/Tipp City OH), David Dunaway (Van Buren), Jason Terrell (Atlanta), Josh Toner (Carlisle, PA), Mike DeYoung (Chicago) and Anthony Jellison (West Memphis, AR).

“Maintenance is a core competency at USA Truck and we strive to improve ourselves every day,” said Jim Cade, Vice President of Maintenance at USA Truck. “The USA Truck Technician Championship is a method of testing our abilities and and honing our skills while also recognizing those technicians who strive to achieve Maintenance Excellence in their day-to-day tasks. I am very proud of all of our technicians, but I am particularly impressed with the professionalism and focus of this group of participants.”
