USA Truck has been recognized as a Top Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking (HDT) for 2025, earning this distinction as one of 20 fleets honored this year for their leadership in several key areas. These include fuel efficiency, freight efficiency, emissions reduction, the adoption of alternative fuels and powertrains, environmentally friendly facilities and practices, and other sustainability initiatives.

HDT has been presenting the Top Green Fleets award to recognize sustainability efforts since 2013.

This achievement marks USA Truck's second consecutive year as a Top Green Fleet. USA Truck, which was acquired by USA Truck in 2022, received this honor in 2018.

USA Truck currently operates two battery-electric trucks and uses renewable diesel to fuel part of its fleet. The company is dedicated to optimizing fuel efficiency by achieving the best possible miles per gallon (MPG) through engine settings and selecting fuel-efficient transmission and rear-end ratios.

Additionally, USA Truck has integrated several sustainable technologies, including solar panels, MirrorEye camera systems, SmartWay-approved tires, and effective aerodynamic packages. USA Truck also operates tire inflation systems on the trailer fleet as well as HALO inflation systems on the tractors. Solar panels on tractors are used to prevent extended idle times for battery charging and specific fleets are also utilizing renewable diesel in our sustainability efforts.

The USA Truck facilities are equipped with low-energy LED lighting and feature carefully managed thermostat settings in the shop interiors. Smart chargers are utilized at battery recharging stations, and the company has eliminated the purchase of fossil-fuel-burning boost-off equipment, opting instead for capacitor jump-start equipment.

Looking ahead, USA Truck looks to be carbon neutral by 2040 and expand battery-electric solutions into the box truck delivery market as customer needs/requirements dictate.

Each year, HDT identifies trucking operations that are leading the way in environmental stewardship. These companies are recognized for their innovative strategies in fuel and freight efficiency, the adoption of alternative fuels and powertrains, the development of zero-emission (Scope 1) options, and the implementation of cutting-edge resource-oriented facilities. The award also considers the companies’ sustainability goals, their willingness to share experiences, and other green accolades received.

Heavy Duty Trucking’s editors seek out nominations from the industry or encourage fleets to submit their own entries to highlight their work in areas such as fuel efficiency, freight efficiency, emissions reduction, alternative fuel and powertrain adoptions, environmentally friendly facilities and practices, and other sustainability initiatives.

“One of the things that struck us about our winners this year is that despite the current changes and uncertainty in the regulatory environment, these trucking fleets are pursuing sustainability because they believe it’s good for business and it’s the right thing to do,” explained HDT Editor and Associate Publisher Deborah Lockridge.

HDT’s Top Green Fleets are highlighted in the March/April print issue of Heavy Duty Trucking, which can be found here.
