June 12, 2013 — For Anthony King, there is no easy way home. Loads in the vicinity of El Paso are few and far between. But a little patience and teamwork go a long way for King excelling in his role as a driver for USA Truck.
USA Truck’s May Driver of the Month has an ally in Driver Manager La Donna Cristee, who credits King’s “fantastic attitude” toward the company, his peers and with customers as a prime factor in his success.
“I have a great working relationship with La Donna,” King said. “It’s tough to get home sometimes, but she helps me out a lot. There’s compromise on both sides, but we make it happen.”
King entered the industry with USA Truck in 2007. Previously, he spent 10 years in the Army as an intelligence analyst. He said the time management skills and discipline he learned in the military have served him well as a truck driver.
Thanks to the Army, King has traveled the globe, but what he enjoys most about his current job is getting to see the United States from behind the wheel. When he does get home to El Paso, he enjoys spending time with Toni, his wife of 20 years, and their three children.
“It’s been a good experience for me,” King said. “I get a lot of feedback from other drivers and I think it comes down to finding what works for you. My family has helped a lot. They are used to me being away, so I don’t have worries about home when I’m on the road.”
John Simone, President and CEO of USA Truck, said King’s commitment is exemplary. “Like all professional drivers, Anthony understands everything that’s involved, and his attitude and work ethic make him a valuable asset to USA Truck. We appreciate all he does for USA Truck and commend him for this recognition.”
USA Truck reserves its Driver of the Month honor for driver team members who consistently display their commitment to safety, DOT compliance, customer service, appropriate use of available hours and overall professionalism. Any full?time USA Truck driver team member is eligible and may be nominated by co?workers. For his recognition as May’s Driver of the Month, King will receive company safety awards points (good for validation among a vast inventory of store items), along with a certificate and companywide communication to honor his achievement.
