Van Buren, AR – June 15, 2015 – USA Truck, Inc. (NASDAQ:USAK), a leading capacity solutions provider headquartered in Van Buren, AR, shined at the Arkansas Trucking Championship behind the performances of driving team member Robert Williams and technician team member Daniel Cupp, each of whom finished as Grand Champion Runner-Up in their respective categories.
The annual event, hosted by the Little Rock-based Arkansas Trucking Association, drew the top professional drivers and technicians from companies around the state to the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers June 12-13. Contestants in the driving competition were scored on three components: written exam, pre-trip inspection and driving skills. Williams repeated as Grand Champion Runner-Up, finishing second overall in a field of 128 competitors, and also won the
Sleeper classification for the second straight year. This was his third Arkansas Truck Driving Championship appearance.
Williams, a Hammond, La. resident, is a company driver who has been with USA Truck for 11 years and is approaching 1 million safe driving miles. He will represent USA Truck at the National Truck Driving Championship August 11-15 in St. Louis.
Also competing for USA Truck was 2014 Company Driver of the Year Tom Miller, Mike Barnes, Darrell Bloodworth, Steven Cazee, Mark Johnston, Ken Petti and Jodie Yoder.
“We are immensely proud of Robert for turning in another tremendous performance at the state competition,” said Jeff Lester, Executive Vice President, Risk Management and Safety for USA Truck. “He and his teammates represent the best of the best at USA Truck. Competition and camaraderie helps us grow and improve. We want our professional driving team members to strive to be elite and to know there are rewards for their good work.”
Cupp, a shift leader at USA Truck’s Van Buren terminal, finished second overall out of 42 competitors in the Technician Championship, winning the Air Systems & Brakes and Steering & Suspension stations, and finishing second in Drive Train. This was Cupp’s fourth Arkansas Technician Championship appearance. He has been with USA Truck since 2009. Teammates Jesse Elmore (fourth overall) and Josh Jorgensen (13th overall), who also work out of the company’s Van
Buren terminal, will join Cupp as USA Truck’s representatives at National TMC SuperTech September 21-24 in Orlando, FL.
“Our technicians are among the best in the industry,” said Jim Cade, Vice President, Maintenance for USA Truck. “They continue to prove it day in and day out on the job, and each year in competition. We congratulate Daniel on his Grand Champion Runner-Up finish at state, and we also applaud the efforts of Jesse and Josh. We wish them the best as they move on to nationals.”
